Abstract

The following notes replace those previously published in JHS lxvii (1947) xix–xxiv. In view of the greatly increased costs of printing and production, contributors are asked to adhere to the following instructions as closely as possible.1. PresentationManuscripts should be typewritten in double or triple spacing on one side of the paper only. The sheets of the text should be numbered, and any information added after the numbering has been completed should be typed on separate sheets and numbered e.g. 2A, 7A, 7B. Pins, staples and small pieces of paper should not be used. The top copy of the typescript should be sent to the Editors, not any subsequent copy nor a photocopy of any sort (but see under Greek Quotations). Contributors should retain an up-to-date duplicate of the article they submit.Notes should be typed separately, not within lines of the text nor at the bottom of the page; they should be double or triple spaced and numbered consecutively with the text.Large margins at top, bottom and sides enable the Editors and the printers' readers to write the necessary instructions clearly. The left-hand margin of the typewriter margin-indicator should be set at 15 (or 1½″)Clean, carefully revised copy is essential; the Editors will return any contribution they consider likely to lead to printing errors, and ask for the necessary improvements. In cases where illustrations accompany the typescript, some indication of captions required would be appreciated, and contributors' requirements will be met as far as possible.Any special requests should be made at the time the typescript is presented. Otherwise, the Editors will correct typescript and proofs to conform with current practice.
