Click to increase image sizeClick to decrease image size Additional informationNotes on contributorsS PalDr S Pal obtained his BSc (1966), MSc in Physics (1968), M Sc (Tech) in Electronics (1970) from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani and PhD in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. After a brief tenure as Scientific officer at Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (Radio Astronomy Centre, Ooty), in 1971 he joined the Indian Space Research Organisation at Trivendrum and thereafter moved to Bangalore in 1973.Dr Pal has been associated with all the ISRO's Satellite programs from the inception and his contributions have been mainly towards the realisation of spacecraft telecommunication systems and antennas for all the Indian satellites. He is responsible for initiating Antenna and Microwave Engineering activities at ISRO Satellite Centre (ISAC), Bangalore. He was the Project Manager for the highly successful Indian Remote Sensing Satellite (IRS-1A) for TTC & Data Handling Systems. He has been responsible for many technological development activities at ISAC.He provided consultancy of ITU (Geneva) and INMARSAT (UK) on Regional African Satellite Communication and LEO-SAT-COM Systems study/planning respectively. Presently he is working as Group Director, Communication Systems Group at ISRO Satellite Centre, Bangalore. His fields of interest are Communication satellite systems, electromagnetics, Antennas & Microwave Communication including space communication.Dr Pal has published about seventy technical papers in Journals of International repute and is a co-editor for two volume book “Perspectives in communications”. He is also a founding editor for Journal of Spacecraft Technology.Dr Pal received the distinguished Achievement Award from ISRO for Aryabhata, Second Hari Ram Toshniwal Gold Medal (for innovation in Electronics) from IETE, and the prestigious Hari Om Ashram Prerit—Vikram Sarabhai Research Award (1989) in the field of Electronics & Telematics.He is a fellow of Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (FIETE), India and member of Antenna Measurements Techniques Association (AMTA), USA.
