Abstract

We comment an unpublished document, the mémorandum of secret meeting of King of Morocco and General Catroux, June 19th, 1945. True characters of nationalism are enlightened . This movement is started by Sultan, who aims an unlimited powership in his country, free of French control. He wants to monarchise, sustained by new elite, educated young bourgeois. So he expects a reapprisal by the French Government of Protectorate institutions, no independence directly. This political plan does not result from any propaganda of newly build party, Istiqlal. Its « Manifeste » was issued on January 11 th, 1944. Contrariwise Sultan supervised its writing in his own Palace. This claim was not motive of hard French military restraint in some cities, in the end of January 1944. French intelligence officers estimated German secret agents were on the verge to initiate bloody riots. Many informations were corne to them about German influence through Moroccan society and especially Palace ; they mistaked, perhaps.
