Abstract

Neodymium and lanthanum pentaphosphate (ReP 5O 14) single crystals over 6 and 14 mm long, respectively, have been grown in phosphoric acid at 750 °C. Smaller crystals were also grown at 200 °C. Crystals grown at the two temperatures have the same lattice parameter, in agreement with reported values, but they have different growth habits. Lanthanum pentaphosphate was found to have maximum solubility in pyrophosphoric acid (H 4P 2O 7).
