Abstract
Potassium acid phthalate crystal 140 mm long and 20 mm diameter has been grown from aqueous solution using modified SR method setup. The modifications were mainly focused for growth from aqueous solution. The ring heater assembly was fixed at the top of the ampoule for large evaporation. The grown crystals were characterized by optical transmission by UV–Vis spectrometer and optical birefringence studies. The UV–Visible spectrum shows that the KAP crystal has good optical transmission which shows the transmission of ∼ 100% for 0.5 mm thickness and 83% for 2 mm thickness. The birefringence value is found to be 0.179 and it is in the order of calcite crystals.
