Abstract

Alkali-earth ion (Ba 2+) substituted La 3Ta 0.5Ga 5.5O 14 (LTG) crystals with a chemical formula of La 3− x Ba x Ta 0.5+ x/2 Ga 5.5− x/2 O 14 (LBTG), suitable for piezoelectric applications, were grown by the micro-pulling-down ( μ-PD ) and Czochralski technique. Powder X-ray diffraction analysis had been shown that Ba 2+ could be substituted for La 3+ up to x=0.2 in LTG crystals. A structure analysis revealed that Ba atoms are mainly distributed in decahedral sites occupied by La atoms. Grown LBTG crystals showed higher value of d 14 and K 12 than LTG.
