Abstract

The application of the Czochralski technique to the reproducible growth of mixed crystals of KMg 1-xM xF 3 (M = V, Co, Ni) for possible laser use has been investigated. Samples of excellent optical quality (approximately 1 cm diameter and several cm in length) have been obtained for the cobalt and nickel materials and the variation in composition of the samples has been assessed by analytical methods. Samples containing V 2+ were less satisfactory.
