Abstract

Hafnium Carbide Nanowires Single-crystalline hafnium carbide (HfC) nanowires are prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and their growth morphology as well as electric field-induced emission of electrons is investigated. A high field enhancement factor of 6 × 106 m−1 is obtained from a HfC nanowire due to its unique strucutre, indicating great performance as a potential material for cold field-emission applications.
