Abstract

A new calcium tantalum gallium garnet (CTGG) single crystal with dimensions of φ25×40 mm 2 was grown for the first time by the Czochralski method. The structure of the crystal has been studied by the X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), and belongs to the cubic system with a space group of Ia3d, a=12.5053(1) Å. The melting point of CTGG was measured to be 1546.2 °C. The crystal possesses a wide transmission range from UV to IR, which is advantageous for applications as a laser host material. The refractive indices were also measured by the V-prism method.
