Abstract
Growth analysis of bell pepper in relation to soil moisture and nitrogen fertilization was carried out for 2 years at the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bangalore, India. The results revealed that irrigation at 40% available soil moisture (ASM) resulted in maximum dry-matter production, LAI, CGR and harvest index, resulting in highest fruit yield, although this was not significantly different from that observed with irrigation at 60% ASM. Nitrogen fertilization increased the dry-matter production through higher LAI and CGR. Nitrogen-fertilized plants were able to partition a greater proportion of their dry matter into fruits, resulting in a higher harvest index and fruit yield. NAR and RGR of bell pepper were not significantly affected by soil moisture and nitrogen fertilization.
