Abstract

An analysis of the thermal condition of the dam during its construction enabled grouting periods to be established for the various zones of the structure, the observance of which avoided grouting of enclosures adjoining completely or partially frozen concrete. During different periods the volume of frozen zones in the dam reached 10% of the total placed concrete. During the 1973–74 winter nearly 270,000 m3 of the placed concrete froze. In places where concrete freezing was observed a large number of grouting enclosures (314 out of 1480) is located within the limits of the commissioning profile for monolithization. Nevertheless, the precommissioning joint grouting was carried out, fulfilling the design requirements as regards the thermal regime.
