Abstract
ABSTRACTThis article discusses the recent diminishing resilience I have witnessed from students in my dance technique classes when they experience setbacks and challenges in their training, examines the role helicopter parenting might have had in influencing this decline, and details how I modified Angela Duckworth’s Grit Scale to be dance-technique specific to help students develop efficacy and self-reliance. I detail strategies for educators to help students find their inner reasons for staying with dance, develop the life skills necessary to have a fulfilling dance education experience, and offer practical tactics for building lesson plans in technique courses that help dance students develop high levels of grit.
