Abstract
Dance integrates both body and mind, yet dance students continue to struggle with loneliness and mental health. Although many dance departments teach the physical components of wellness, such as anatomy or nutrition, most departments do not incorporate the skills or training for mental health and well-being. In this article, I offer several examples for how to incorporate positive self-talk practices into a dance class, focusing on journal prompts and other assignments to integrate mental skills training into dance class curriculum. My hope is that these exercises and activities can serve as a framework adaptable to different wellness topics allowing teachers to serve the mind, body, and heart of each student. This holistic approach gives them the necessary tools to develop self-awareness, resilience, and positive habits.
