Abstract

Although the article “Chlorination‐Filtration for Iron and Manganese Removal” (Journal AWWA January 1984) lists various treatment sequences for this procedure, no mention is made of the use of catalytic media within the filter. Plain aeration, sometimes with pH adjustment and sometimes with chlorination, followed by catalytic media filtration, has been a common practice for iron and manganese removal in the United Kingdom. Manganese green sand is seldom used for this treatment process.
