Abstract

Manufacturing activities are increasing globally amidst various environmental challenges. Complying with new regulations and pressure from stakeholders are compelling industries to adopt new technologies, management system, and processes, which can minimise ecological footprints. In emerging economies, rapid growth of industries is posing high pressure on environment with the reality that large share comprises of small and medium size industries, which are deprived of required fund for investment. To address the problem in context of emerging economies, this paper is proposing a concept of ‘Green quality circle’ which empowers shop floor employees i.e. workmen who can improve manufacturing processes with environment point of view. In this regards, the purpose of this paper is to bring attention of academicians and practitioners for untapped potential of employees at grass root level. The findings of this paper are supported by case study. It is proposed that conventional quality circles have potential to improve existing process from environmental point of view, but it needs focused approach through management support and training.
