Abstract

One of the biggest challenges facing civilization today is the advancement of sustainable energy sources. In this way, green hydrogen presents a viable step to lessen our reliance on fossil fuels and move towards a sustainable future. Therefore, the primary objective of this chapter is to explore the potential of green hydrogen as a renewable energy source and its integration into various sectors to facilitate the transition towards sustainability. The chapter discusses the technology behind green hydrogen production through electrolysis using renewable energy sources and examines its applications in transportation, industry, power generation, and heating. Additionally, it highlights the role of green hydrogen in decarbonizing historically carbon-intensive regions. Furthermore, the chapter addresses the challenges and barriers that need to be overcome to fully harness the potential of green hydrogen. Through this exploration, readers will gain insights into the opportunities and obstacles associated with the adoption of green hydrogen in the pursuit of a sustainable energy future.
