Abstract

Tea is undoubtedly one of the diversely consumed beverages. It has been a part of human civilization since time immemorial. In the recent years, the green and sustainable extraction technologies have been gaining wide considerable interest. The basic concept for development of green extraction technologies would be cost-effective, zero or minimal emission and time-saving so that developed products would be techno-economically efficient and safe for biodiversity. Microwave extraction is the emerging green extraction technique for recovery of phytochemicals. This extraction technology involves the usage of electromagnetic waves of intensity from 300 MHz to 30 GHz. High-pressure processing technique relies on the recovery of active constituents under very high pressure using a specific solvent. The MWE, SFE and UAE extraction technologies are the emerging extraction methods commendably used for the extraction of tea constituents. These techniques allow rapid and economical processing of desired phytoconstituents without effecting the environment.
