Abstract
Carbon diffuses into metals and recrystallizes as graphite, which is the graphitization of carbon by metal. The lowest temperatures above which diamond-like amorphous carbon, graphite and graphite-like amorphous carbon are graphi-tized by Ni and Fe were compared. The results were useful for understanding the formation of graphite thin films and carbon nanotubes by vacuum chemical vapor deposition using Ni, Co and Fe.
