Abstract

Recently, interest is growing rapidly in the biomedical applications of graphite-based materials, particularly, for controlled release of drug and for targeted drug delivery. Among graphite-based materials, graphene, graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide are of special importance as they exhibit remarkable applications in the medicinal field. In this context, diverse properties of grapheneviz. thermal, mechanical and electronic properties have been explored for the preparation of nanocomposites. Graphene-based functionalized nanocompositesplay vital role in DDS as they exhibit large specific surface area, cheapness in terms of cost, biocompatibility, stability and small size. Many such DDS have recently beendeveloped and other investigations are in progress. Hence, in this review article, latest research findings on the role of graphite-based materials, especially, G/GO/RGO-based functionalized-nanocomposites for drug delivery system along with future prospective will be discussed.
