Abstract

Although a review of the methodology for using the Phenomenology of Consciousness Inventory (PCI) and other retrospective phenomenological assessment (RPA) instruments will not be given until the next chapter, this chapter will describe the several graphing devices that have been developed to diagram phenomenological experience. Once these devices have been described, it will be easier to review the methodological limitations of the PCI and similar instruments and their use with the graphing devices discussed below. (To simplify the following discussion, the different graphing devices will only be discussed in terms of the PCI. The Dimensions of Attention Questionnaire (DAQ) could just as easily been used to illustrate most of what will be discussed in terms of the PCI.)
