Abstract

Although the Phenomenology of Consciousness Inventory (PCI) and the Dimensions of Attention Questionnaire (DAQ) have been used primarily to assess states of consciousness associated with hypnosis, stress management conditions, and baseline states like eyes open or closed sitting quietly, their potential is really much greater. Both the PCI and the DAQ were developed to be used with, and in assessing, the wide variety of altered states including, but not limited to, near-death experiences (NDEs), out-of-the-body experiences (OBEs), insight and concentrative meditation, drug intoxification states, shamanistic experiences, lucid dreaming, and the like.
