Abstract

Graphene oxide, one of the allotropes of carbon, has sp2 hybridized carbon atoms arranged in a two-dimensional honeycomb lattice. In last three to four decades, lot of research interest has been shown in it by virtue of its large surface area, high thermal and electrical conductivity. It has versatile and tunable carbon backbone which can lead to facile functionalization and incorporation into a variety of products. It has been extensively studied for applications in electronics, catalysis, sensors, energy conversion and storage etc. Besides these versatile applications and properties, graphene itself cannot achieve the goal, it needs incorporation of different other nanomaterials and vice- versa. Hereby we tried to give a mini but critical analysis of graphene oxide synthesis, its structure elucidation, characterization and application in various fields.
