Abstract
The reminiscences of a successful financier demonstrate the link between self-esteem, grandiosity, wealth, and sexual activity. The case presented is the narrative of a 60-year-old man who describes the factors that led to his fall from princely status at age 5. Preoedipal and oedipal conflicts contributed to John's grandiosity. He dcscribes the long arduous struggle with his career difficulties, which through analysis of his grandiosity, led to success in the field of finance. Over the years, his early extremely active sexual life lost a considerable amount of its driven, desperate quality. At age 60, he has achieved wealth and can tolerate greater emotional intimacy in his love life. For him, the eternal struggle for success is more enjoyable than the actual' victory.
