Abstract

Graphic design is a discipline which turns the communication elements which may fall within graphic arts into the visual communication elements. The relationship between the graphic arts and design is a style of “being designed” of the relation between the visual communication and communication. At this point, the visual communication is turned into the visual communication by means of graphic design training. In this article, it was tried to discuss which principles the graphic design training supported with art training should be based upon academically in all its aspects under the light of historical development process of the graphic arts by referring to the basic design principles which also cover the graphic design discipline. At this point, curriculums of some universities which take the German Bauhaus Ecole who is the representative of the arts and design training as a model in departments of graphic were examined in terms of academic principles and shown as example. It was tried to explain particularly how design training should be structured in scientific and artistic aspects on a scheme in which all courses are correlated by referring to the relations of courses given in these programs with the graphic design discipline. It was stated that the most ideal principles and Professional success in the graphic design training may be obtained “with the design training strategies supported with art training and based on creativity”.
