Abstract

The field of speech‐communication has changed much in the last half‐decade, and graduate programs in speech reflect these changes. This article assesses the current status of degree programs by examining the number of institutions reportedly offering graduate degrees, their degree requirements, the extent of financial aids for students, and the opinions of respondents regarding the over‐production of graduate speech degrees. It provides comparisons between the current status of programs and their status five years earlier, and evaluates projected changes.
