Abstract

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book offers a wide-ranging yet easy-to-read overview of the contents, structures, and processes of climate change governance across the region. It provides situated and contextualized accounts of climate change governance or share the challenges and opportunities from a practitioner’s perspective. The book also provides a concise overview of climate change governance and practices across Southeast Asia, highlighting the conflicts and tensions between a globalized climate change governance regime and a set of highly country-specific, situated, and context-dependent governance practices across a diverse and rapidly changing region. It examines novel forms of climate action in Laos, where the country’s government, together with international donors, has pursued a range of reforestation and sustainable energy production policies and projects for climate mitigation. The book focuses on climate change governance in Myanmar.
