Abstract

Climate change is a threat multiplier of current security dilemmas that exist across Southeast Asia. This chapter explores the complex relationship between climate change and security in the region. It notes the dire projections for climate change in Southeast Asia and explores how they may impact or augment existing traditional and non-traditional security threats. Moreover, the high likelihood and high impact severe weather events that are projected to occur through to 2040 in the region are explored and expected to drive conflict, or necessitate cooperation, for the foreseeable future. This chapter aims to orientate the reader in the complex relationship between climate change and security in Southeast Asia.
