Abstract

The following paper aims to develop the shortcomings of a prospective phenomenology of public space highlighting the phenomenon of social media and its necessity of the profile. In order to attain this objective, it propose appeal to conceptual framework of Jacques Derrida, a philosopher who attacks “metaphysics of presence”. The phenomenology of public space —specially the one that comes from Arendtian thought— relies on the life of citizen, her intention present to herself, and her territorial enclosure and contiguity (bios, telos, and polis, respectively). The social media profile overthrows this triad that is axiomatically assumed as constitutive of the public space.
