Abstract
Abstract. The author takes as basis the encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI, where he substantiates that one of the root modern issues is an essentially individualistic interpretation of the person. The author analyzes the problem of isolation, which in its turn can be viewed as the source of multiple problems, including material poverty. In the context of this viewpoint the author reflects on the nature of “Goodness”, – Common Good that underlies human society. Individualism, strongly rooted in the West, leads to inferior understanding of the Goodness. To improve the situation we should abandon this approach, as real community can be based only on the Goodness that can be shared, and according to the author, this means that this Goodness can be “owned” by several people at the same time.
