Abstract

This study aimed to survey the species of Gomphonema Ehrenberg in pristine Cerrado streams located in the Brasilia National Park, Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park and Terra Ronca State Park, located in the midwestern region of Brazil. Samples were taken between the years 2012 and 2013 (rainy and dry seasons), with the periphyton collected from seven different substrates, whenever they were present (pebbles, silt, tree trunk, macrophytes, sand, leaf litter and root). We identified 10 taxa in this study. The species Gomphonema sp.2 was present in all streams, and G. lagenula and G. brasiliense were the species with the highest frequency of occurrence in both seasonal periods. This study contributed with three species cited for the first time for the midwestern region (G. brasiliense subsp. pacificum, G. laticollum and G. pseudoaugur).
