Abstract

This is the first time that all the enquiries and censuses carried out in Spain in respect of the principal manifestations of institutionalized religious practrce, as well as in respect of various other indications of religious vitality, have been collected together, for example attendance at Mass, observation of Easter, vocational indices, the numbers of priests and monks, enquiries in respect of religious outlook, and all this is expressed within a historical and socio-economical framework, which tests and explains it, and gives a clear picture of the Spanish Church, with the object of achieving an overall view of the Spanish religious scene. The author has had to overcome great difficulties in order to select the basic material necessary for this attempt at synthesis. In spite of this, the reader is given a key to the complexities of the present condition of the religious observance of the Spanish people.
