Abstract

Global navigation satellite systems (GNSSs) have drastically progressed and advanced over the last few decades. In this chapter, the authors first study the positioning requirements of surveying and mobile mapping and the role of GNSS as an alternative for providing timely accurate positioning information. The positioning requirement of the surveying and mobile mapping sector is one of the most crucial factors of all land‐related and geospatial mapping activities. The authors review some major applications of GNSS across the surveying and mobile mapping sectors. The authors present emerging developments in the GNSS system and mapping industry which positively impact the performance of surveying and mobile mapping applications. Over the past few decades, GNSS has been acknowledged as a well‐established technology for all land and marine surveying applications due to its accuracy and reliability.
