Abstract
Glycerol occurs naturally and is present in the form of esters in all animal and vegetable fats and oils. It has low acute toxicity in human and experimental animals and is not associated with chronic toxicity in humans. Glycerol has many industrial, food, consumer, and medical uses. The medicinal actions of glycerol are due to osmotic action. Its use in e-vaping liquids and e-cigarettes is, in part, associated with dry mouth and throat associated with the use of these products. Glycerol is of low acute and/or chronic toxicity to fish, aquatic invertebrates, algae, and bacteria.
