Abstract

Some characteristics of glow-discharge reference tubes using single-crystal cathodes are given. The (100), (110) and (111) crystallographic planes were exposed to the glow. The (110) face was found to give excellent stability for the body-centred-cubic crystals used. Preferential cathodic etching was also observed.
