Abstract

Post-1965 Asian immigrants come from different parts of a new Asia, many of them highly educated, highly skilled, and highly capitalized. Consisting of Southeast Asian refugee, transnational Indian, Korean, and Taiwanese communities in urban and suburban areas, Asian America today is much more diverse than the pre-1965 Asian American enclaves. Similarly, today's Asian American businesses are no longer localized as they were before. For example, Goldilocks and Jollibee fast-food franchises located in Filipino American communities are branches from the Philippines, while Asian global banks, such as Union Bank and State Bank of India, reach their respective compatriot communities in the U.S.
