Abstract

In order to gather knowledge about dissemination, dimensions and utilisation of lagoons for storing slurry, a survey of 150 farmers was carried out in August 2000. The average lagoon size was a remarkable 1877 m3. Despite the relatively high space requirements, the low cost construction, as well as the simple handling, motivated a high degree of satisfaction among the farmers. Since it seems that there are lower ammonia emissions from the lagoon (see the Krause&Hartung paper in this edition), this form of slurry storage will become more widespread, despite permit requirements.
