Abstract

The Berlin State Library will undergo substantial renovation in the coming years. To integrate the readers’ perspective into the planning process, the library’s user experience team engages in manifold research activities, among them the diary study we present in this article. The study covered fifteen readers, and we designed it to generate information about their activities in the library, their favorite spaces, and their ideas for the future library. The article presents the study’s design and findings, reflects on crucial decisions and practical insights, and concludes with ten questions that might help you avoid some hazards when you think about employing a diary method.
