Abstract

Tony Richie continues to overstate his case relative to King's 'optimistic' theology of religions. The historical evidence does not support the claim that King was a full (religious instrumentalist) inclusivist who viewed non-Christian faiths as potential means of access to the benefits of Christ's atonement. The 'core lesson' of this dialogue and 'the heart of the matter' with respect to what Richie and I agree about is that King entertained Christocentric salvific hope for at least some of the humanly unreached (accessibilist inclusivism).
