Abstract

The results from a study on the evaluation of 5 introduced artichoke cultivars, including Green Globe - USA, Violet de Provence - Germany, Chenopodiaceae - Israel, Cardon Blanc Ivoire AB - France, and Artichaut Imperial Star - France cultivated in Da Lat, Lam Dong province showed that all of them have simultaneously bloomed in 7 months after planting, good health, and well resisted to main insects and diseases, equivalent to local one coded A85. Cardon Blanc Ivoire AB and Green Globe cultivars were considered to be better in terms of germinating ratio (more than 70.0%, as high as A85) and flower productivity. The introduced cultivars were diversified in both composition and antioxidant content in flowers presented by a significantly higher concentration of anti-oxidant substances in flowers analysed by HPLC compared to the control. The results of this study should be of good information used in the selection of varieties to improve the yield and quality of artichoke in Vietnam.
