Abstract

This month has presented Gert Becker, president of Association of German Chemical Industry (VCI), with frustrating situation: Good news about industry's performance in 1994 has to be played down bit, as industry embarks on its annual wage negotiations with German chemical labor union. Coming on heels of 1993, the most difficult time in postwar history for German chemical industry, however, balancing act was welcomed by Becker, who is president and chief executive officer of Degussa A.G. fact, at VCI's annual January press briefing in Frankfurt, he noted that turnabout in fortunes of chemical industry was a refreshing change.
