Abstract

Geopolymers have just recently emerged as a distinct class of materials. Among the several types of Geopolymers, those made from fly ash have been more popular since the 1990 s. When compared to Portland cement concrete, the performance of innovative binders like Geopolymers based on fly ash is promising. Fly ash can be combined with alkaline solution to produce aluminosilicate gel to manufacture the geopolymer concrete. In this study, an extensive literature review of geopolymer concrete is performed on its critical design parameters such as alkaline solution, curing temperature and method used, workability and the compressive strength of geopolymer concrete in distinct environment have been carried out. This research therefore investigates how geopolymer concrete performs in such a novel setting. This investigation will suggest directions for further study into how this material might be enhanced and used in a wide range of conditions.
