Geometry ability in Senior High School Students: Based on Learning Style

Geometry becomes an important component in mathematics which is learned by students at every stage. Learning style is one of the factors that influence students' geometry abilities. Therefore, it is important to describe how students' geometry abilities are viewed from learning styles. This research is quantitative descriptive research. The instruments used were a learning style questionnaire and a van hiele thinking test (VHGT). The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistical techniques with percentages, namely data from geometry tests that are successfully collected and then analyzed using a category assessment scale. The instruments used were the learning style questionnaire and the Van Hiele thinking test (VHGT). The research subjects were 276 high school students from eleven different schools in West Sumatra with the dominant learning style being visual as many as 104 students, followed by auditory as many as 98 and kinesthetic as many as 74. The results showed that the average students' geometric ability was 47.4 (on a scale of 0-100). In addition, students with a visual learning style have a higher average geometric ability compared to other learning styles. Therefore, it is hoped that teachers can consider using learning models that apply the Van Hiele level of thinking and the dominant learning style in geometry classes, for example by integrating technology.

The influence of learning styles on academic procrastination among students in mathematics.

Procrastination is a complex psychological and behavioral construct that is strongly influenced by certain personality traits. In mathematics learning, students find it difficult to master the concepts because of less exposure to learning styles. Poor knowledge of mathematical concepts leads to academic procrastination in the subject of Mathematics among students. Therefore, this study aims to identify students' learning styles in Mathematics, identify the stages of students' academic procrastination in Mathematics, and determine whether there is a significant influence of learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic) on academic procrastination among secondary school students in Mathematics. A quantitative approach with a survey was applied. A total of 500 Form Two and Form Four students in five national secondary schools in the Kota Bharu district, Kelantan, were selected using simple random sampling. The duration of data gathering started from 4 October 2022 until 31 January 2023. The Learning Styles Questionnaire and the Academic Procrastination Questionnaire were adapted and verified by eight experts in psychology and counseling. Descriptive and multiple regression tests were carried out using IBM SPSS version 26.0. The results revealed that the visual learning style was the most dominant learning style among students in the subject of Mathematics, followed by auditory and kinesthetic. The level of students' academic procrastination in Mathematics was low. Besides, multiple regression showed that visual and kinesthetic learning styles were significant contributors or predictors, which amounted to 14.1% of the variation in students' academic procrastination in Mathematics. The implications of this study highlight the possibility to improve programs in schools by exposing students to suitable learning styles so that they can practice effective learning styles in Mathematics and consequently overcome academic procrastination. Further research can be carried out by identifying other factors that encourage academic procrastination in the subject of Mathematics in order to increase students' motivation and self-efficacy.

Implementation of Geometry Multimedia Based on Van Hiele's Thinking Theory for Enhancing Critical Thinking Ability for Grade V Students

This study is a advances study of the development of geometry multimedia based on Van Hiele's thinking theory with the aim of for enhancing critical thinking ability using the ADDIE development model. In this study, a difference test was conducted to determine the effect of using geometry multimedia on students' critical thinking abilities. This experiment was conducted at SDN Mojoroto 1 and SDN Mojoroto 6 Kota Kediri. The results of the t-test analysis show that there are significant differences between the critical thinking abilities of students who use geometry multimedia based on Van Hiele's thinking theory and those who do not use geometry multimedia based on Van Hiele's Thinking Theory.

Relationship between Learning Styles and Research Morale among Iranian Second Grade High School Students

Consideration to the learning styles benefits students to participate more enthusiastically in the class activities and to be more confident in answering questions asked by the teacher. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between learning styles and research morale among students of the second grade high school in Shiraz, Iran. Population of the study included all students of the second grade high school in four areas of Shiraz in the academic year of 2015- 2016. A number of 345 students were selected using multi-stage cluster sampling method. Research tools included the Kolb’s learning style questionnaire and the research morale questionnaire by Mohammadsharifi (2013). The results were analyzed by SPSS and Lisrel Software’s. Results showed that the dominant learning style among the students was a convergent learning style. No difference was seen between research morale of male and female students. Among all learning styles, convergent and divergent styles had a significant association with research morale. Moreover, there was a significant multiple correlations between convergent, divergent, assimilation, and accommodative learning styles and research morale. The finding revealed that the two learning styles of convergent and divergent were stronger predictive of research morale. This study may confirm the role of learning styles in developing research morale and approve the hypothesis that in learning, both convergent and divergent styles should be considered.

Mapping the students’ learning style can make easier the educators to choose the suitable teaching strategies. This research investigated the students’ learning styles in debate class in order to find out what is the most dominant learning style and what is the least interested learning style.The researcher used a quantitative method and intangible sample survey technique in cross sectional time to gain the result. The researcher used learning style questionnaire as the instrument to collect the data and learning style instrument to analize the data. This research was using Proportionate random sampling technique (60%), there were 71 students took as sample of research from third semester of Islamic University Kalimantan Muhammad Arsyad Al Banjari.As the result found out that the most dominant learning style in debate class was kinesthetic with 39% or 28 students choosed it as their best style in learning and the least interested learning style in debate class was visual learning style with 29% or 20 students did not like study using visual aid. Based on the result above, the educators should create learning environment more active, enhancing their physical interaction and avoid the strategy using any visual aid.

STUDENT’S LEARNING STYLES IN LEARNING READING COMPREHENSION

This study is about student’s learning styles in learning reading comprehension. The design of this research was descriptive research. The data were collected by using questionnaires and observation sheet. The subject of the study are the XI AP 2 of SMK Swasta Harapan Stabat and the object of the study are the students learning styles in learning reading comprehension. The data were analyzed by using Fleming theory. The purpose of conducting this research was find out whether the most dominant learning style in reading comprehension and to find out what are the types of student’s learning styles which has higher achievement in reading comprehension of XI grade in SMK Swasta Harapan Stabat in academic 2016/2017. There were 32 students as the subject of this research. In this case, the researcher collected the data by using learning style questionnaire and observation. The result showed that auditory learning style is the most dominant learning style at the tenth grade students at SMK Swasta Harapan Stabat, the percentage was 71,87%, it means 23 from 32 students prefer to hear than read and move. The second was kinesthetic learning style, the score, 21,88%, means that only 7 students prefer to move. Then, visual learning style, score 6,25%, means that 2 from 32 students prefer to read. For the fastest student’s in reading comprehension came from auditory students or auditory learners. They get score 69,56% followed kinesthetic 21,74%, and visual 8,70%.

Mathematical communication is a fundamental skill that students must possess and master to facilitate their mathematics learning activities. This study aims to describe the mathematical communication skills of students with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles in solving word problems related to the straight-line equation. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects were eighth-grade students at SMPN 6 Mataram. To select the subjects, a learning style questionnaire was administered to three classes to determine one class that would be given a mathematical communication skills test. The study involved 33 students, consisting of 14 students with a visual learning style, 10 students with an auditory learning style, and 9 students with a kinesthetic learning style. The instruments used were a questionnaire, a test, and an interview guide. The data analysis techniques were data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. In general, students with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles demonstrated a moderate level of mathematical communication skills. Students with a visual learning style were only able to complete two indicators. Students with an auditory learning style could complete three indicators, but not fully. Students with a kinesthetic learning style were only able to complete two indicators.

The Effects of The Teaching Methods Prepared for The Visual or Verbal Learning Styles on Academic Success

This research was carried out with the aim of determining the effect of instruction on the academic success of the students, which is organized according to visual or verbal learning style. The study was conducted with pretest-posttest control group. The study group was determined by using the criterion sampling from purposive sampling methods within the scope of the research, a six-week practice was conducted with the 4th grade students studying in three public schools in the fall semester of the 2014-2015 academic year. Instruction was planned in a way to support the visual or verbal learning style of the students within the scope of the 4th grade social studies course, and visual or verbal multimedia elements were used in addition to the teacher's lecture method. The learning styles of the students were determined using the "Verbal or Visual Basis Learning Style Determination Scale" within the scope of the study; the effect of verbal or visual learning styles on the academic achievement were determined by using the "Academic Achievement Test of Where We Live Unit of Social Sciences Course". The findings showed, it was seen that teaching organized according to the visual or verbal dominant learning style had a significant effect on academic achievement of the students. This significant difference was found to be favorable for the experimental group, where the dominant learning style was visual. The control group between the experimental group and the control group, in which the dominant learning style was verbal.

The Effect of Application of REACT Learning Strategies on Mathematics Learning Achievements: Empirical Analysis on Learning Styles of Junior High School Students

This study aims to determine the effect of REACT learning strategies on mathematics learning achievement in terms of the learning styles of eighth grade students of public junior high schools in Sragen district. This study was a quasi-experimental study with a 2x3 factorial design. The population of this study was eighth grade students of the public junior high schools in Sragen Regency in the 2015/2016 academic year. The sample was taken by stratified cluster random sampling. The instrument used to collect data is by distributing questionnaire to test the mathematics learning achievement and student learning style. Data analysis techniques use two-way variance analysis with unequal cells. The results show that REACT learning strategies produce mathematics learning achievements that are better than direct learning in material relations and functions. Moreover, mathematics learning achievement of students who have a visual learning style as well as students with auditory learning styles, students with visual learning styles have better learning achievement than students with kinesthetic learning styles, while students with auditory learning styles have the same achievement with those with kinesthetic learning styles. In addition, in the category of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles, students who were treated with REACT learning strategies had better mathematics learning achievement than students who were treated with direct learning. Lastly, in each REACT learning and direct learning, students with visual learning styles have mathematics learning achievements that are as good as students who have auditory learning styles. Students with visual learning styles have better mathematics learning achievement than students with kinesthetic learning styles, while students with auditory learning styles have mathematics learning achievements that are as good as students who have kinesthetic learning styles.

Pemahaman Konsep Matematika Siswa Madrasah Tsanawiyah pada Statistika Ditinjau dari Gaya Belajar

Understanding the concept is essential in learning mathematics, where it is possible to have different achievements based on the characteristics of students' learning styles. Therefore, this study wants to describe the ability to understand mathematical concepts in terms of students' learning styles. This qualitative research was conducted at MTs Negeri 2 Semarang. Of the 31 grade VIII students at the school, it was found that 42% had a visual learning style, 32% had an auditory learning style, and 26% had a kinesthetic learning style. Furthermore, research subjects were selected purposively based on mapping learning styles, and six students were obtained. Data collection techniques used learning style questionnaires, concept comprehension tests, and interviews. Data analysis techniques use interactive models and check the validity of the data using triangulation. Research data management and analysis using Nvivo software. The results showed no significant difference in conceptual understanding between subjects with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. The six subjects can do the test correctly and have been confirmed through interviews. However, the two visual learning style subjects cannot show the location of the mean, median, and mode of data presented in the diagram. This finding suggests that teachers should emphasize using various mathematical representations in student learning.

A Correlation Study of Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic Learning Styles against Students' Higher Level Thinking Skills in the Topic of Respiration

Learning style is the style practiced by certain individuals in the learning process that distinguishes them from other individuals. Every student has a different learning style based on their ability and comfort level. There are three more general learning styles which are Visual, Auditory, and Kinesthetic (VAK) learning styles that students usually have. This study aims to examine the relationship between visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles on students' High-Level Thinking Skills (HTS) in the topic of Respiration in Form 3. A quantitative study through a survey research design was carried out involving a total of 60 Form 3 students from a school in the Tanjong Malim district with using simple sampling techniques. The two research instruments used are the learning style questionnaire and the HTS test. The data obtained was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software version 27. The results of the analysis showed that the overall mean for each questionnaire item was at a medium-high level, namely auditory learning style (3.81) followed by visual (3.78) and kinesthetic (3.68). Pearson's correlation findings show that there is a significantly low positive relationship between kinesthetic learning style (<0.019), on the other hand, there is no significant relationship between visual learning style (<0.135) and auditory learning style (<0.070), with students' KBAT. In conclusion, the kinesthetic learning style is able to apply students' high-level thinking in the topic of Respiration. The implication of this study is that teachers need to pay full attention to teaching strategies that target students with visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles. Appropriate teaching strategies and techniques can help students to improve higher-level thinking skills in Science.

The Process of Students' Mathematical Connection in Solving Mathematical Problems in terms of Learning Styles

The purpose of this study was to describe the process of students' mathematical connections in solving mathematical problems in terms of learning styles. The type of research used is descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The research subjects were six students consisting of two students who have a visual learning style, two students who have an auditory learning style, and two students who have a kinesthetic learning style. Student learning style data were collected through learning style questionnaires, while student connection process data were collected through mathematical connection test sheets and interviews. Data credibility is done by triangulating sources and methods. Data from the six subjects consisting of two students for each of these learning styles were described and categorized from the same, different, and specific views. The subjects obtained from the results of the learning style questionnaire were compared using the results of the mathematical connection test and interviews. Data analysis was guided by four steps to solve Polya's problems and was carried out in three stages, namely data condensation, data presentation, and conclusions. The results showed that there are differences in the mathematical connection process carried out by students who have visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles in the step of understanding the problem. However, there are similarities in the mathematical connection process carried out by students who have visual and kinesthetic learning styles at the step of compiling a completion plan and checking again. while students who have a different auditory learning style from students who have visual and kinesthetic learning styles in implementing the completion plan and re-checking. The process of mathematical connection of students who have an auditory learning style at the step of checking back cannot be seen, because these students do not take this step when solving problems. Researchers suggest that teachers need to accustom students to connecting mathematics both internally and externally and pay attention to the emphasis of the material given to students so that students' mathematical connections are more developed. because the student did not take this step when solving the problem. Analysis of students' thinking level in solving Pythagoras' theorem problems based on Van hiele's theory

The aims of this analysis are to explain the level of thinking of grade VIII students at SMP Negeri 1 Talang Ubi in solving Pythagorean Theorem questions based on Van Hiele's theory. The research approach used in this analysis is descriptive qualitative case study research. The subjects of this research were three students of grade VIII of SMP Negeri 1 Talang Ubi, South Sumatera Indonesia. The three students were chosen based on their test answers on the Pythagorean Theorem material, with one being a high-ability student, one being a medium-ability student, and one being a low-ability student. The study's data collection techniques included assessments, interviews, and documentation. Techniques for data processing include data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The findings revealed that high-ability students could complete all four stages of Van Hiele's thinking: imagination, interpretation, informal deduction, and deduction. Moderate students achieved three levels of Van Hiele's thinking, including visualization, analysis, and informal deduction, while low-ability students achieved only one level of Van Hiele's thinking, visualization.

The aim of the research was to find out the effect of learning models on mathematics achievement viewed from the student learning style. The learning model compared were snowball throwing and NHT (Numbered Head Together). The type of the research was a quasi-experimental by 2×3 factorial design. The population was the seven grade student of junior high school in Cileungsi district on academic year 2017/2018. The sampling tecnique was cluster random sampling. The size of the sampel was 60 students consisted of 30 students in the first experimental group and 30 students in second experimental group. The instruments used were mathematics achievement test and learning style questionnaire. The data was analyzed using unbalanced two-way analysis of variance. The conclusions of the research were as follows. (1) Snowball Throwing learning model gives better mathematics achievement than NHT learning model, and (2) The students with visual and auditory learning style have the same mathematics achievement and give better mathematics achievement than the students with kinesthetic learning style, (3) In all the students with visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning style, snowball throwing learning model give the better mathematics achievement than NHT learning model. (4) In the snowball throwing and NHT learning models, students with auditory and visual learning style have the same mathematics achievement and have the better mathematics achievement than students with kinesthetic learning style.Keywords: Snowball throwing, NHT, learning style, mathematics achievement

The title of this thesis is Students Learning Style in Learning Speaking of Ten Students at SMA Negeri 1 Simpang Empat. The purpose of conducting this research was to find out whether the most dominant type of students learning style in learning speaking and to find out what is the learning style realized in English Speaking of ten students at SMA Negeri 1 Simpang Empat in academic year 2016/2017. There were 10 students as the subject of this research. In this case, the researcher collected the data by using learning style questionnaire and observation. The result showed that auditory learning style is the most dominant learning style at the tenth grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Simpang Empat, the percentage was 60%, it means 6 from 10 students prefer to hear than read and move. The second was kinaesthetic learning style, the score, 20%, means that only 2 students prefer to move. Then, visual learning style has same dominant with kinesthetic, the score, 20% , means that 2 from 10 students prefer to read. The purpose of this study was to determine and describe the influence of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles through the use of digital learning media assisted by Quizizz on reading literacy of grade V students of Elementary School Cluster II, Somba Opu District. The type of research used in this study is experimental research. The research sample consisted of the experimental class, namely class VA SDN Sungguminasa V, totaling 29 students and the control class, namely class VB SDN Sungguminasa V, totaling 29 students. Data were collected through reading literacy tests, learning style questionnaires, and observation sheets. Data analysis techniques using descriptive analysis techniques and inferential analysis. The results of the study showed that (1) There is an influence of visual learning style through the use of digital learning media assisted by Quizizz on reading literacy of grade V students of Elementary School Cluster II, Somba Opu District, with a significance value (Sig = 0.00) < 0.05. (2) There is an influence of auditory learning style through the use of digital learning media assisted by Quizizz on reading literacy of grade V students of Elementary School Cluster II, Somba Opu District, with a significance value (Sig = 0.01) < 0.05. (3) There is an influence of kinesthetic learning style through the use of digital learning media assisted by Quizizz on reading literacy of grade V students of Elementary School Cluster II, Somba Opu District, with a significance value (Sig = 0.02) < 0.05. (4) Visual learning style has the greatest influence on reading literacy of grade V students of Elementary School Cluster II, Somba Opu District, with a significance value (Sig = 0.00) < 0.05. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that there is an influence of the use of digital learning media assisted by quizizz and learning styles on the reading literacy of grade V students of SD Gugus II, Somba Opu District.
