Abstract
Banded iron-formation occurs in the schist belt around Muro Hill, Nigeria. The banded iron-formation lies between an upper nonfoliated and a lower foliated quartzite. It is folded into a series of isoclinal folds and is locally faulted. Two varieties of banded iron-formation occur--mica rich and mica poor. The mica-rich banded iron-formation is medium grained and mottled. The mica-poor banded iron-formation is medium grained and mottled. The mica-poor banded iron-formation is bluish-gray to metallic gray, fine to medium grained, and thinly banded. The Fe content of the banded iron-formation varies from 29.59 to 36.72 percent. It contains small amounts of sulfur and phosphorous impurities. The inferred ore reserve is about 3.18 X 10 9 metric tons.
