Abstract

Geographic stomatitis (GS) is an uncommon condition of unknown etiology and a migrating pattern. Case 1 was that of a 33-year-old man referred for oral evaluation because of a diagnosis of cutaneous lichen planus. Oral examination revealed painless erythematous areas surrounded by a white halo in the soft palate and dorsum of the tongue. Case 2 was that of a 14-year-old adolescent girl referred because of burning areas in the mouth lasting a few months. Intraoral examination revealed erythematous areas surrounded by a white borders in the tongue, mucosa of the lower lip, and buccal mucosa. Case 3 is that of a 70-year-old man referred with burning symptoms in the mouth lasting a few months. Intraoral examination revealed erythematous areas surrounded by a white halo in the tongue and labial and buccal mucosa. Diagnosis in all 3 cases was GS, and patients were oriented about the condition and prescribed mouthwashes for relief of the burning sensation.
