Abstract

The New York State Library in Albany hosts the New York State GIS Clearinghouse, and employs hands‐on geographic information systems technology as an enhancement to its reference services. Both GIS initiatives involve new social alliances in bringing the benefits of spatial data use to New Yorkers. This article describes both operations, with an emphasis on the person‐to‐person services of librarians to our user communities.
