Abstract
Cat allergy affects ∼15% of the population, with the major cat allergen, Fel d 1, driving associated IgE antibody responses and cytokine-mediated allergic inflammation. The biologic function of Fel d 1 and whether that function is essential for cats, is unknown. Here we present a bioinformatics analysis of Fel d 1 to gain insight into the evolution and potential function of the protein.
