Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Endometriosis is a common alteration characterized by endometrial tissue found outside the uterine cavity. Although it is a benign disease approximately 1.0% of patients develop malignant characteristics in common with neoplasia, such as clonal proliferation, tissue invasion and tendency to metastasis. Many investigations show that women with endometriosis have increased risk of some types of tumours, mainly cancer of the pelvis and ovary. Other kinds of cancer as breast and hematopoietic malignancies have also been reported.
