Abstract

ABSTRACT This manuscript critically examines the adoption of generative AI tools, notably ChatGPT and Bard, within public administration research, especially in street-level bureaucracy. While these tools offer revolutionary insights into bureaucratic behaviors and decision-making, they pose significant ethical dilemmas, including potential biases and data privacy concerns. The paper offers comprehensive recommendations designed to help researchers navigate these challenges, emphasizing the need for robust data validation, enhanced transparency, and continuous adherence to evolving ethical standards. The overarching aim is to facilitate responsible AI integration, ensuring research methodologies’ efficacy and preserving ethical integrity in public administration inquiries.
