Abstract

The application of shearing mechanisms to layered cuprates and copper oxycarbonates allows several series of shear-like structures to be generated. Five series of compounds are described here: the collapsed 2201 and 2212 bismuth cuprates which do not superconduct, the (100) and (110) collapsed “1201-S 2CC” superconducting thallium and mercury oxycarbonates and the collapsed bismuth oxycarbonate Bi 15Sr 29Cu 12O 56(CO 3) 7.
