Abstract
We present a minimal extension of the standard model (SM) where a Kobayashi-Maskawa (KM) phase is generated from spontaneous CP breaking at a high energy scale. The only additional fields are a charge − 1 3 vector-like quark and a singlet scalar S. In the limit V= 2 |〈S〉|→∞ , this model reduces to the SM with KM mechanism. For V as high as 10 −10 2 TeV, the neutron electric dipole moment lies in the range 10 −26−10 −28 e cm.
